Brrrrrr!

It was 32.6 this morning. There were warnings for the mt. passes between here and Portland. It did warm up later in the day and was beautiful out. I cooked supper tonight and made cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice, and salad. We all had some more of Angela's lemon supreme cake.

Madras, Oregon

I've been here 4 days and just holding baby, helping cook, going grocery shopping with Aunt Onie, or what ever Angela needs. It rained last night and this morning and it is a lot cooler (50) today. Carl said they may get 6-9 inches snow in the pass between here and Portland tonight. Finn is 2 months, and Sawyer is almost 3 1/2.
I found out last night that our friend Hoa (Dong's wife) is going to fly to Portland next week and go with me to Alaska. She will travel with me for a few weeks and then fly home for her sons graduation from college. Sounds like fun! Well better go help with supper prep. Angela has made an incredible looking cake for supper and home made chili.

Leaving Sacramento

I am still having problems with the time change. I would have just gotten up and started traveling but Dong wanted to cook a breakfast for me. I had learned the hard way the day before not to drink his coffee from Vietnam. It tastes good, but has much more caffene in it that mine. I had the jitters for hours. Dong made what I call chicken soup. It had meat balls from Vietnam, flank steak, and chicken. It was wonderful, we ate it over noodles. I drove most of the day and made it to Madras, Or. The weather was pretty and the traffic light. It was something to have snow covered mountains on both side of the road. The Coastal Mountain Range on the left and the Cascades on the right. I passed Shasta Lake and it is really pretty. Well, my legs are cold( I have on long sleeved shirt and a short sleeved shirt with capris and flip flops) so I will stop for now. Maybe I can hold the baby while Angela works in her garden. She is just getting it ready to plant.

San Fransisco

The trip to San Fran was great! We stopped in Davis and saw the house that Dong had remodeled for his kids to live in during college. It has 7 bedrooms and they rent out the other 6. We ate breakfast at a Black Bear Diner and traveled on to the Golden Gate bridge. We went to Golden Gate park and walked some of the beautiful trails. Dong and Hoa walk every day. The trees, plants, and landscaping is gorgeous. We stopped on the shore at a park up on a ridge looking down at the water. I walked down part way, but stopped at the stairs that led straight down to the water and some old baths that are just ruins now. Dong and Hoa went the whole way down, but I knew my knees wouldn't take it. Going down would have been okay but coming up ... I sat and watched even young people coming up and breathing hard! We went from there to the Fisherman's Wharf. We visited several shops, and toured a ship museum, located on one of the piers. We needed Jordan, Madi, and Lexi to climb up and down in all of those boats. We could see Alcatraz across form the museum. We listened to 2 men singing sailing songs. Their harmony was great! After walking around for a while we ate lunch at a seafood restaurant on one of the piers and we could watch the sailboats in the distance. I bought a jackets that says San Fransisco and has a picture of the golden Gate bridge. We went back to Sacramento across the Mission Bridge. It is much longer that the Golden Gate bridge.

Sacramento

Well, I got to Dong and Waa"(not spelled correctly) house last night. We got the camper all hooked up. Margie, he remembers that you got mom's all backed in. I did not. We went to eat at an authentic Chinese restaurant and I had to just look at the pictures. They ordered for me. It was all great except the soup. We had eggplant that was cut in strips , grilled and then it had a terriakki sauce on it' also lomein noodles with chicken, pork fried rice, and some kind of stalked green maybe bokcho with plum sauce. After we were finished, they brought us a small bowl of soup???? It was dessert! Sweet , with tapioca, or rice, seaweed, and what looked like little black eyed peas, but Hoa said they were called golden beans. It was good too.
I can not seem to get use to the time change, so I'm up at 4:15 their time. We are going to San Fransisco today,I've never been so looking forward to it. Later, Donna PS Sorry about all the spelling errors.

Gary has helped me alot with this, teaching me how to put pictures in and he doesn't even like blogs!!

Starting my trip

I left Robinson at about 6am on Mon. 4/16/12. I traveled to Big Lake, tx and ate with Amy F. I said hi to a few friends and then set off again. I stopped in Lordsburg,NM and camped in a Hampton Inn parking lot. Tue morning I was still on Tx. time and got up early and started driving. It was a cool 39 and went down to 32. I soon passed into another time zone so I made it through Tucson before the rush hr. I arrived at the Navy base about 2 Cal. time.
We were able to park my 5th wheel on base and went to the NEX to buy groceries. I have cooked several meals and sweets for Gary and cleaned any clothes that were dirty(not many). We drove over to Mission Bay and had pizza at a place Gary knew. It is so beautiful here. Gary has helped me with my computer, blog spot, and my camera. Jenny had shown me but I need a refresher.  I am planning on leaving Fri. morning 6 his time. to head for Oregon.
